The Scoop
Get hip to what’s been happening at HDD…
PBS Appearance

The amazing interns & staff along with professional painter SuperShan spent the day filming the PBS submission episode of Leslie’s program called “Design by Democracy” in the studio. Lil’ C even made a cameo appearance to discuss this episode’s topic: paint color selection.
Good Luck Deb!
HDD is proud of our awesome extern Deb as she finishes her placement with our company. Many thanks to Career Quest Learning Center for sending us such an awesome, capable admin!! Good luck, Deb!
Farewell, Amy!

Sadly, HDD must bid farewell to awesome project manager and intern wrangler Amy. Amy did A LOT of work around the studio, and will be very missed. Everyone at HDD extends their best wishes to her as she moves on to New Jersey. Good luck Amy!
HDD design interns return from Neo Con

HDD proudly welcomes back the design interns that attended student day at Neo Con, where the design world comes together to showcase the newest and most exciting products and advancements. The interns got to learn tons of new things and mingled with the people involved in the design industry. Yay!

2010 Okemos Art Walk

The HDD Crew had tons of fun at the 2010 Okemos Art Walk!
On-The-Job Training

New HDD Summer intern Mary literally works her fingers to the bone while inserting drapery hooks in multiple panels during a window treatment installation. Lessons from Mary’s experience today:
1.Don’t bleed on the fabric.
2.Don’t call them “curtains” unless you want a lecture about proper HDD product terminology.
Hooray awesome assistant Mary!!
Fun With Fabric!
Susan, the Schumacher Fabric rep, visited the HDD studio today to present the company’s spring line and the nanotex fabrics to our new interns. Nanotex fabrics are stain resistant, so you can have your wine and silk fabric, too! Can you say “Christmas morning?”
Donating to the Alzheimers Association

HDD is proud to continue its commitment to the “C” of the “DMC trifecta”: Community. In the last month, HDD has donated 6 gift certificates for in-home interior design consultations to charitable organizations throughout the Lansing and Grand Rapids areas. Business Manager (and part-time pitbull) JenHen happily holds the most recent donation to the Alzheimer’s Association. For more information on how HDD gives back to the community, contact Jennifer Hennigan.
We’re Green Stars!!
HDD is pleased to announce that we’ve earned “Green Star” status through Meridian Township’s “Green Star” recognition program! That means we’ve stepped up to meet the high environmental standards required by the Green Star program, including reducing our use of waste, energy, and water. Another big part of having “Green Star” status is reaching out to our local community to educate and train the public on how to live green and help our environment. So, be sure to check out Leslie’s newest seminar: Reduced, Reused, and Recycled Design to get the scoop on easy and affordable green design!
(Wall) Street Cred

Leslie has been recognized as a national design expert in the Wall Street Journal. Check out the link for her quote in the article.
Alice
HDD is mourning the loss of shop pup Alice the Dog on Tuesday, October 27th. Alice bravely fought a bladder tumor for several months and defied expectations from the vet. Alice was the best dog in the world (though she had issues with the UPS dude) and will be missed terribly. When Les told her daughter Lily that Alice had gone to the big doggy park in the sky, she cried briefly, wiped her tears, and asked with as much pathos as a four-year-old can muster “can I have a pony now?”
Our New Project Manager!
We are very excited to be welcoming our new project manager, Amy, to the HDD team. Amy graduated from the University of Minnesota, and she has a black lab named Tripp. Amy’s primary responsibilities include managing all the details of client projects, keeping Leslie in line and wrangling the interns. Hooray Amy!
HDD goes to see the Lugnuts!

On August 19th our owner and a group of our very own interns went out to see the splendor of America’s favorite pastime, while kicking back with some peanuts, cracker jacks and ice cold beer. These kinds of outings happen frequently throughout the year, and we’re always excited to include anyone who is interested in joining! So… the question is, when do we get to go again?

Home Fashions & Design Sale

The first ever Home Fashions & Design Sale will be taking place at HDD Studio from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. on Saturday, June 27th, 2009. This is a great opportunity to find bolts of high-end fabrics, remnant flooring, and drapery hardware that may be just what you need to finish your home improvement project. Hart-Davidson Designs and other local businesses will be offering design odds and ends at reduced prices.
The sale will feature fabrics, window treatments, home décor pieces, flooring, rugs and miscellaneous home improvement supplies. Many local vendors will be on hand to answer questions and provide guidance on projects.
Leslie Hart-Davidson, owner and lead designer of HDD will be presenting the popular seminar Tapped Out Design at 2 P.M. This “edu-taining” seminar covers ideas and resources for home improvement projects that are out of time, energy, money or ideas.
If you are in the middle of renovation, or simply looking for design inspiration, come and find what you’re looking for to make your house a home.
Coordinator Meeting

The new Coordinators gathered for their first meeting at Mangos in East Lansing to discuss upcoming events and plans for HDD. Every Coordinator has their own projects and ideas to bring to the table to help HDD grow. It’s a great opportunity for interns to take on a leadership position and get the experience of organizing and executing projects which improve the general welfare of the business. Some of the topics included volunteer work, Mission of Hope Cancer Fund Raffle, Habitat for Humanity Build (June 20th) in Stockbridge, events, outings, goals and more.
Leslie’s Article Published

The esteemed Michigan HOME Resource Guide recently published an article by our very own Leslie Hart-Davidson entitled “Growing Your Nursery”.
